Making bread used to scare me! I always just went to the grocery store to pick up some naan before making Indian food but then started to read what was in the naan: tons of preservatives and ingredients I couldn’t pronounce! So, I decided to make my own. This garlic naan recipe is SUPER easy and fast as there is no rising time, woohoo!
I've created the perfect recipe for Vegan Garlic Naan that's not only healthy but also way easier to make than you might think! Naan, a staple in many cuisines, is often enjoyed alongside curries, soups, or even just dipped in some good ol' hummus. But here's the twist - we're adding a garlicky punch to it!
Garlic, my dear friends, isn't just there to make our naan taste heavenly; it's also packed with health benefits. It's known for its immune-boosting properties, and let's not forget that amazing aroma that fills the kitchen as it cooks! This Vegan Garlic Naan recipe is perfect for those cozy nights in. Or for impressing your friends at your next dinner party. It's easy, it's healthy, and it's 100% vegan. Trust me, once you try making this at home, you'll be waving goodbye to store-bought naan for good!
I love knowing each of the ingredients in whatever food I'm eating. It's one of the reasons I started making more food at home. This recipe has 6 simple ingredients you probably have in your pantry already! When I first made this, I was nervous because making bread is tricky. It gets sticky, it's hard to work with, and it usually takes some time to rise. This recipe is now a staple at our house and is the perfect side to any curry or soup we make. I hope you enjoy!
Garlic Naan
Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cups whole wheat flour
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup vegan yogurt
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon vegan butter of choice optional but recommended to brush naan breads
- 3-5 cloves of garlic minced (depending on how garlic-y you want)
Instructions
- Combine the whole wheat flour, baking powder, salt, and yogurt in a bowl with a spatula. Once mostly combined, use your hands to form into a ball.
- Place the ball of dough on a floured cutting board and cut into 8 parts. Roll each of the 8 parts into small balls then knead a few times. Roll them into naan shapes.
- Heat up a naan-stick pan (ha ha!) and place your naan on there for 2-3 minutes until bubbles form then flip.
- Immediately after, brush each naan with butter (or place a few small cubes on and wait for them to melt) and spread minced garlic over
- ENJOY!
I hope you enjoy this Vegan Garlic Naan recipe as much as I do! It's the perfect blend of health and flavor, and just so easy to make. If you're looking to dip your naan in some hummus, check out my hummus recipe here!
