Let me spill the beans (my favorite are garbanzo): this website isn't just your typical recipe hub (though, trust me, there are some absolute GEMS headed your way). It's a journey of embracing a lifestyle that focuses on health and balance while not sacrificing on flavor, because I’m a firm believer that we live to eat, not just eat to live.
So What is a Plant Forward Recipe?
It’s a recipe that involves tons of veggies, fruits, beans, nuts, seeds, and whole grains at the heart of it. It’s similar to a Vegan diet where there are no eggs, dairy, or meats but focuses more on health forward recipes, not just recipes that eliminate animal products but may not be as health forward (though those are great too!). I’m Plant Forward, not fully Plant Based because I truly believe there should be a balance in life. If you’re traveling in Italy and want some buffalo mozzarella cheese on your pizza, go for it! If you’re craving your favorite bakery cookie, don’t stop yourself from having that lovely treat! My philosophy is that we should be making healthier choices most of the time, while having them still be delicious, and we shouldn’t be too hard on ourselves. After all, we’re only human!
Background on my Journey
Lemme give you a little background on my journey and how I got here- you can skip this paragraph if you’re just here for the recipes, but hey, you’ve read this far on the “about me” page so you’re probably a littttllllleeee curious ;). Before creating recipes and food content, I was working in strategy and marketing at different tech companies and was part of some layoffs. I firmly believe that things in life are meant to be, so I was excited about being laid off, because though I didn’t know what was coming, I knew it was going to be new and exciting.
I immediately started planning my travels where I ended up spending a week working on an olive orchard, vineyard, and farm in Tuscany, Italy where I learned about giving back to the Earth that provides the beautiful food we eat. Then I spent a week in Florence indulging in gelato, pizza, pasta, and wandering around a new city, exploring! I finished my trip in the French countryside taking cooking classes under a wonderfully talented Chef where I learned the secrets of seasoning, knife work, flavor combinations, and left feeling confident in the kitchen whipping up new recipes!
When I came back I realized I still didn’t have a job and probably needed to start thinking about getting a job… so I went to a yoga class and had the realization that I was so passionate about nutrition and food. DUH! My entire 3 week European trip revolved around food, of course I should be doing something with food. But having never studied food, I wanted to learn more before switching my career completely from the tech industry to food. So, I got a certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition through Cornell (love that I’m a fellow alum with the Nard Dog) and learned about the health benefits of plant based eating as well as the science behind micro and macro nutrients.
I was in awe of how incredible plant based eating is and the wonders it can do for your health. After that, I knew I wanted to combine my passion for food with my love of film and creativity and help others feel more confident making delicious but not overly complicated plant forward recipes. So… here I am! Doing just that! (Reminder to just kind of go for it and see if your dreams can become a reality!)✨
My Recipes
The recipes I make are mostly dairy-free, refined-sugar free, vegan, and plant-based. I also like making gluten-free recipes as I have many dear friends that are gluten-free and I always love keeping them in mind. Occasionally you’ll find a recipe that doesn’t fall into these categories; that’s not me steering off brand, that’s me just trying something and really liking it and wanting to share it with the world.
So, whether you're a curious foodie adventurer, a first time chef looking for healthy approachable recipes, a health nut, or simply someone who believes in the power of mouthwatering eats, you've landed in the right corner of the internet (job well done, the internet can get scary sometimes so I’m glad you’re here).
