Orange Sauce and Tofu
Tofu is a staple source of protein in a plant-forward diet! Now it gets a bad rep because of the texture and lack of flavor, however, tofu is so versatile! For this recipe, coat the tofu with cornstarch and some tamari then stick it in the air fryer for 15 minutes.
While the tofu is crisping, make your orange sauce by combining all ingredients. Pour it onto a pan and heat until it's thick (a few minutes). Then, after your tofu is crispy, coat it in the homemade orange sauce for another few minutes in the pan.
How to Pick the Right Orange
I find it difficult to pick fruits sometimes and feel that whenever I go in blindly to the grocery store, I never end up feeling confident about my choice.
For this recipe, the orange sauce requires 1 navel orange. You're going to want to pick an orange that has a nice color, is firm, and is heavier than it looks. This will give the ideal flavor (not too sour) for this dish. The heavier the fruit, the juicier it is on the inside!

Ingredients
Tofu
- 1 15- oz pack of tofu
- 2 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon tamari or soy sauce
Orange Sauce
- zest of 1 orange
- 1 navel orange juiced
- ¼ cup vegetable broth
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- 2 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger
- 2 cloves garlic pressed
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Other Ingredients
- 1 head of broccoli chopped
- 3 bell peppers chopped
- 1 red onion chopped
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil
- Brown rice for 4 servings
Optional Toppings
- Green onion
- Sesame seeds
