This chocolate vegan ice cream is naturally refined sugar-free, gluten-free, and made with a base of bananas! It has some dates for sweetness and the bananas make this ice cream so creamy! I'd recommend sprinkling a bit of sea salt flakes on top after scooping because it enhances the chocolatey flavor!
Benefits of Chocolate
Chocolate is packed with antioxidants. Cocoa powder boosts the immune system and improves nerve and muscle function due to the iron, zinc, magnesium, manganese, and selenium found in it. It is also high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory nutrients.
The antioxidants in dark chocolate can lower your blood pressure, and help with overall heart health. Chocolate has also been shown to boost brain power! How cool!
Why Refined Sugar-Free
It’s no secret that refined sugar, while delicious, isn’t the best for our health, especially when consumed frequently. It can spike blood sugar levels, lead to weight gain, and even affect your mood. That’s why this chocolate vegan ice cream (and most of my desserts) are crafted without it. I think you can still get the sugar flavor with using refined-sugar free alternatives like maple syrup.
Refined sugar is essentially sugar that has been processed to remove the molasses, resulting in a finer grain. It’s everywhere in our diets, from sodas to store-bought desserts. But fear not! There are alternatives like maple syrup, dates (used in this recipe), and coconut sugar that are refined sugar-free. These natural sweeteners not only provide a rich depth of flavor but also retain some nutritional benefits.
What to do if you don't have a Ninja Creami
If you don't have a Ninja Creami, fear not! This recipe can be made in a blender and then frozen overnight. It may not have the exact same texture, but it will be delicious.
All you need to do is blend your ingredients together, as you would if you had a Ninja Creami. Then put them in a freezer safe container with a lid. Let it freeze overnight, then take your container out of the freezer and wait 15-30 minutes for it to soften then scoop directly from the container. Top with sea salt flakes and enjoy!
