Raw Cookie Dough- Why Is It So Bad For You?
So I used to think that eating raw cookie dough was bad because of the potential Salmonella from the eggs. So I was like, great, I’ll just look for ‘egg free’ cookie dough. Then I did some more research and realized it was also the flour in the dough that isn’t good for you to eat raw because it can contain germs that make you sick.
So What's In These Cookie Dough Bites?
So when making this raw cookie dough I used ground up oats as the flour and add almond milk and nut butter as the liquid instead of an egg. The splash of vanilla adds a lovely cookie dough flavor. I also added some protein powder to have a snack/dessert that also keeps me full! The sea salt flakes on top are here to add flavor and a contrast to the chocolate chips.
This recipe is super simple and comes together in 10 minutes by just mixing all of the ingredients together. Now, since this doesn't have any baking soda/powder, I would not recommend making cookies out of this. This dough is made strictly for eating (wow, what a relief, that's what I do anyway)!
Why Refined Sugar-Free
It’s no secret that refined sugar, while delicious, isn’t the best for our health, especially when consumed frequently. It can spike blood sugar levels, lead to weight gain, and even affect your mood. That’s why these chickpea blondies (and most of my desserts) are crafted without it. I think you can still get the sugar flavor with using refined-sugar free alternatives like maple syrup.
Refined sugar is essentially sugar that has been processed to remove the molasses, resulting in a finer grain. It’s everywhere in our diets, from sodas to store-bought desserts. But fear not! There are alternatives like maple syrup, dates, and coconut sugar that are refined sugar free. These natural sweeteners not only provide a rich depth of flavor but also retain some nutritional benefits.
